Sheila Tlou (Page 1 of 2)

Professor Sheila Tlou was Minister of Health in Botswana from November 2004 to April 2008. She is a Member of Parliament and Professor of Nursing at the University of Botswana. In 2002 she was appointed to a special UN task force on girls, women, and HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa. She has also provided consultancy to UNAIDS, the UN Commission on the Status of Women and the World Health Organisation. She took part in the international community educator meetings for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network from 2001 to 2004. Between 2005 and 2007, she chaired the African Union Conference of Ministers of Health.

Dr Tlou obtained a PhD in Community Health Nursing and a diploma in Gender Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1990 and has taught at the University of Botswana since 1980, becoming head of Nursing Education in 1994. Between 2002 and 2004, she was the University's HIV/AIDS Coordinator.
