Speaker Biography

Gavin Mooney

Gavin has over 30 years experience working in health economics. He was Professor of Health Economics and Director of HERU at the University of Aberdeen, before moving to Australia taking up a position with the University of Sydney in 1994 and then in 2000 to his current position at Curtin University in Perth.

He has worked on priority setting with governments and health departments in several countries. He has written widely on various aspects of public health economics including most recently an edited book from CUP with Di McIntyre on The Economics of Health Equity. His new book Challenging Health Economics will be published by OUP in 2008. He was one of the organisers of an international workshop in Copenhagen last year on the political economy of health. He has acted as consultant to the WHO on many occasions and for the OECD. Gavin is also visiting Professor to Aarhus University (Denmark) and to the University of Cape Town (South Africa).
