Durham Cathedral perches high above the city, visible for miles and is widely acclaimed as the finest example of Norman religious architecture in the world. Not to be missed, the Cathedral was recently voted Britain's best-loved building, by Radio 4 listeners. Durham City has a beautiful compact centre and is ideal for wandering through the medieval streets and browsing in the numerous small shops and boutiques.
